Today, I was reflecting and asking God in my heart, “What’s next?” As clearly as God could speak in my heart, I heard this:

A sower went out to sow his seed. As he was sowing, some fell along the path; it was trampled on, and the birds of the sky ate it up. Other seed fell on the rock; when it sprang up, it withered, since it lacked moisture. Other seed fell among thorns; the thorns sprang up with it and choked it. Still other seed fell on good ground; when it sprang up, it produced a crop: 100 times [what was sown]. Luke 8:5-8, HCSB (Emphasis added)

So, I’m asking you to join in praying for people around the world who trusted Christ as their Savior this Easter season. I’m asking you to pray that the soil of their heart is good and that they produce a crop of 100x. I’m praying that their faith will shake our church, city, state, nation and world.

I began to think about the time that we spend together and what that time looks like. First of all, when we’re together I want to have fun. We laugh and play a lot. But the time with my kiddos is split into 1/3′s that looks like this:

  • 1/3 of the time is spent showing them I love them.
  • 1/3 of the time is spent training them to be like Christ.
  • 1.3 of the time is spent praying and begging God that they will honor Him with their lives.

These thirds just become the natural part of our time and days together. It’s not something that I spend hours planning for – it’s just what happens. And, most of the time I find myself praying and begging God in the quiet moments that I look at them in the rear view mirror or as they look into my eyes.

How do you spend the time that you have with your kiddos?

Sometimes things happen that do not really make sense.That happened this past summer.

Lindsey wasn’t feeling all that well and it was time to leave for our Kids Camp. Her mom took her to the doctor for a migraine and he prescribed some medicine. She made her way to camp but couldn’t shake the headache. After spending a day with the nurse, she went back home and made another trip to the doctor.

This time things got more serious. It led to an MRI and other tests which uncovered an AVM (arteriovenous malformation) – a group of veins and blood vessels that connect in the brain and cause problems.

After tons of consultation, Lindsey has surgery to correct the problem this Wednesday, January 20. It’s very serious and very scary for her and her family (and her friends). Rest assured: they are a strong family of faith and they know that God is in control. Her mom is on our staff team as well.

Will you join me in asking Him for a miracle – will you pray for Lindsey this week?

Riches. Fame. Power. No, he chose wisdom. And 1 Kings 4:30, God honored that, saying

I have given you a wise and understanding heart, so that there has not been anyone like you before you, nor shall any like you arise after you. NKJV

So, that’s it, right? Solomon was just given wisdom because he asked for it. End of story? Wrong.

In 1 Chronicles 22, the Bible says

Now, my son, may the LORD be with you; and may you prosper, and build the house of the LORD your God, as He has said to you. Only may the LORD give you wisdom and understanding, and give you charge concerning Israel, that you may keep the law of the LORD your God. verses 11 & 12, NKJV

David had been asking God to give Solomon wisdom. I think David had made a big deal about wisdom in Solomon’s life. After all, David could testify first hand to the effects of the lack of wisdom. Also, David had dreamed some big stinking dreams for Solomon.

So, some questions for you:

  • What are you making a big deal about to your kids?
  • What prayers are you praying for them?
  • What dreams are you dreaming for your them?
  • Where is your spiritual leadership taking them?

Every night I pray for these things with both of our kids:

  • That they will come to know Christ at a young age and serve Him with their whole life
  • That they will have the wisdom to make wise choices in life
  • That they will impact their generation for Christ
  • That they will be leaders of leaders
  • That they will be pure and holy
