We’ve tried to be intentional about connecting the kids with Christ, even though they are 4 & 2. However, we really have ramped it up over since Hayden started Pre-K last month. We want our kids to have great faith, a close walk with Christ, and a biblical worldview. We’re willing to try anything, but here’s where we’ve started:

  • Missionary stories: We’re working through the Child Evangelism Fellowship missionary stories that you can purchase here. Each night we take a picture or two of the story, and it gives us a chance to talk about the faith and sacrifices that many people have made to serve Christ. The stories take minimal preparation (you can read them) and are very engaging for your children.
  • Weekly breakfast: Each Friday I take the kids to breakfast at separate times. I am walking through Goodnight Warrior with Hayden. We work through one of the stories together and talk about living for Christ. Madison and I are not in a book yet – we just spend time together. She’s started wanting to bless the food more – a cool first step for her!
  • Serving together: Several months ago Hayden wanted to plug up the audio and video cables for the gaming stations at church. It started with just one week and then kept going, week after week. I wanted to stop doing it, but he told me, “It’s my ministry.” Okay, we’re not stopping – we’re serving together.

Hayden Serving

Your kids need you to be engaged in their lives. If you spend an extra hour a week pouring into their lives, I have to believe that it will make a HUGE difference. They are the next generation of the church. What are you doing to build into your kiddos spiritually? What are you doing that we are not doing?

    Great ideas, Josh!

One of my favorite memories is dancing with my son during the worship music at FPC. He’s a little too old… and too heavy for that now. Now, I have my daughter who is 2 yrs old. Once a week (today actually), we have Daisy Dance Day. We go out on the back porch and run around and dance to Christian pop music. We love it.

I would have agree with Marta – Great ideas. What an awesome thing it will be to be able to serve with our kids when we are blessed with them!
