Have you ever been stuck in a rut? A few years ago I went 4-wheeling in Jeeps with some guys from church. There were huge ruts in the paths which made me a little nervous! The vehicle got stuck in one of those deep ruts and the guys pulled out a jack of some sort to help get it out. I think we had fun, but I have not been back since then!
Recently I realized something significant about me: I spend a lot of time thinking about my life on Earth and not as much time thinking about life after Earth. It’s not bad to consider my life here and what God has in store for me, but it really bothered me that it has become my focus at times. I’m stuck in the Earth rut. The struggle came as I was reading this verse:
But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Matthew 6:33
Not sure where you are, but the Earth rut will suck the life out of you. It will make your focus become all about you while you think less and less about Him. And you need a jack to get out of it, which will probably come from His Word, Spirit or someone who knows you well.
What are you pursuing in your life? Does it need to change? Are you stuck in the rut? How do you keep your focus on Him and His Kingdom (and I do not want Sunday School answers)?
Talking about it has been the greatest thing I could do. When I have the opportunity to talk to others about Him it takes my mind off of myself. I just got done talking with a co-worker about heaven, what it will be like, what job I would like to have in heaven, if Moses would be a quarterback on a football team, you know all the important stuff! Also when I think about the relationships that I have, how I can be intentional in them, and what is my motivation in creating a relationship with people. I am very aware of why I seek a relationship with others, if it is for the wrong reasons then I back off, I refocus and go about it with the right intentions.
