Yesterday was July 4th. Rewind with me about 4 months ago. We have Saturday night services at FPC and we knew that the 4th was going to cause people to choose between family fun and our church services. We realized that many towns were canceling their fireworks shows due to the economy, so we decided to create the family fun and fireworks for our community.

We were behind on planning an event of this magnitude and about half of our staff were already scheduled off or away on mission trips (we had staff on 3 different continents yesterday). Could we pull if off? Would it be a success if we were competing with other things in the community?

Our team pulled together and yesterday was the culmination of a few months of planning. There is power in a team. We worked hard, recruited volunteers and went for it. And our team hit the ball out of the park! Here’s what we saw:

  • Over 5,000 people come to be a part of the celebration.
  • Around 75 people made decisions for Christ or to follow Him in baptism in response to Ken’s message.
  • Hundreds of volunteers gave up a holiday to serve Him.
  • We all realized that again we were a part of something that was greater than what we ever believed would happen!

You can do a lot of things on your own, but if you want to impact your community and this world for Christ, build a team. We have yet to see what our staff team and volunteers can accomplish together. Every time we get close, they step it up and take it to a new level again!

Thanks to each person who gave up their July 4th for our celebration. It was an awesome day!
