It’s something that I can’t figure out: Why do we naturally move from simplicity to complexity?
In every idea, we often start with a simple thought. However, as we move through the process, the ideas gets more and more complex (and often times less and less realistic). Many times we end up with awesome spreadsheets and strategic plans that no one else understands. It’s amazing how we desire the complex.
Then I thought about God. Obviously He is perfect, but He has this amazing balance of simplicity and complexity. Think about some of the things He said:
I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it. Luke 18:17
We’ve all seen the simplicity of child like faith. Kids believe that God can do anything, that He will heal everyone and that He answers every prayer. It’s plain and simple – God said it, you do it, it’s done!
But we see the complexity of God as well. In Mark 8:34-35, Jesus made things very complex:
Then he called the crowd to him along with his disciples and said: “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me and for the gospel will save it.
Yet, it’s the perfect balance of complexity and simplicity. When you come to Him, you can do it as a little child. You don’t have to know all the answers, you just have to know that He is the answer. And as you grow with Him, you learn more about your pride, more about the sacrifices of following Him and more importantly that your life will only ever have value if you lose it in Him.
Wow – it’s very simple and very complex! I wish I was able to always find that perfect balance.
It‘s quiet in here! Why not leave a response?
