Last week we had a lot of opportunities to interact with people – in mass quantity! Surprisingly, in spite of a “down” economy, Disney was jam packed. I like watching people and watching how people interact with one another, but last week was depressing. Here are some things that I noticed:
- If dads are as willing to be that rude to wives and children in public, I wonder what is happening in the home behind closed doors. Come on dads – our lack of humility and self-control is killing the family.
- Most people on scooters believe they own the world. The nicest person I saw on a scooter was missing both legs. The rest were very unhappy people.
- Cutting in line and pretending like you did not know that there was a line is the new “normal.” This mostly applies to people over 65, but it was a common problem.
- No one says “excuse me” or “thank you” much anymore.
- Rules were meant to be broken and argued about – who cares about authority.
I could go on – of my week, people-watching was the most disturbing thing about my vacation. People appeared to be worse off than I have ever experienced. If you are a Christ-follower, represent Him well – we have a lot of work to do!
Having lived in Orlando and frequenting Disney alot while I did, I was wondering if the people you were seeing could have been mainly Europeans this time of year. The Dutch and the German’s especially freqent Disney this time of year.
I didn’t notice that, but there were lots of people there! Good thought! Thanks for telling me that.
