The Unit family series has really been amazing and this weekend was no less incredible than the first two weeks. Here are some thoughts that Pastor used to rock us with this weekend:
- We learn to love God primarily at home.
- What legacy are you leaving for your kids? What are you leaving them spiritually?
- Most grandparents like their grandchildren more than their children.
- Amazing family verse: Acts 16:31 ~ this verse assumes that you care about the spiritual well-being of your family.
- After a bad day (if you call being stripped and beaten bad), Paul & Silas are praising God. Their problems led to worship – what do your problems lead you to do? Your kids are watching.
- It’s easier to worship when you live with a worship leader (his wife, Michele, is our worship leader).
- I’ve had some of my greatest times with God in my greatest trials.
- REMEMBER, people do what people see.
- The did not tell this guy the Four Spiritual Laws – they LIVED Christ and it led people to Him. Being around you should draw people to Christ.
- Faith today has been relegated to the church, not the family. That is wrong. Faith flows through the family faster. The family has always been around, not the church.
- We care more about our kids grades, sports, activities than their walk with Christ. One day, you will watch your kids be judged by God. The number of tackles they made will not matter then.
- Are you building an environment where your kids can grow in their faith?
- The church does not have a discipline problem, it has a love problem. Jesus said if you love me, you’ll obey my commands.
- The Kingdom of God is closer than you think – don’t let your kids miss it!
I have not seen that many people at the alter in a long time. I don’t care how good of a parent a person is, there is always room for improvement.
On a side note….
Matthew wanted to stay home today from church. I immediately asked him several questions.
1) Did you play & practice baseball this week?
2) Did you play with your friends?
3) Did you work at school this week?
Smart kid, he already knew where i was going with it. So then I said, Matthew how would you feel if it was your birthday and nobody remembered it, or came to your party? I explained to him that is how God feels when we skip church. Bam he agreed and started putting on his clothes no questions asked.
After the teaching from Pastor this morning I now I know that I need to be creating more scenarios during the week to raise religious questions etc. Better to answer them now than when he is 25..
