So often when I read the Bible, the realization that my personality sometimes trumps God’s Word becomes very evident. Last week I came across this verse:

Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring forth. Proverbs 27:1

Confession: I struggle to live in the “today.” My job is to be strategic, to make plans for the future, to see what’s coming in the future so that we are ready. So, I lived today about 6 weeks ago. That’s right. And, today, I am living a day to come about 6 weeks from now.

Part of me writes this off as planning – I’m a planner and organizer. Yep – I plan my work and work my plan.

But, what about today? It’s all over Scripture.

This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. Psalm 118:24

Why did God tell us to live today? The most obvious – it may be your last one or you don’t get another one of this day. But for me it is a reliance issue – a faith issue. When I live in tomorrow, I don’t have to rely on Him today. I’m not looking at what He wants me to do today. It’s easier to pass by Ephesians 2:10 opportunities (the good works).

I need to live today and plan (with His help) for tomorrow. Do you struggle to live today?

I’m with you. This is a major challenge.

When I took the StrengthsFinder survey, my number one strength was “futuristic.” It can be very beneficial, but it also makes it more challenging to enjoy the present.

since the economy turned south and it started affecting our family it has made it alot harder to live in the future! we struggle just to get through today and tackle tomorrow when it gets here. strange to be thinking one month of how we can help others through pantry of promise and then find yourself with your power cut off and calling to see when the pantry is open so we can get enough food to make it to payday. we have found that faith is harder to come by in the valley but God is still on the throne! greater things are to come and we are believing that God will make this trial a blessing!
