Today Pastor and I had the privilege of having lunch with Chris Hodges, Senior Pastor of Church of the Highlands in Birmingham, AL. The church has seen radical things happen: they were a portable church for 6.5 years, built a new campus 1.5 years ago and in 2008 they were Outreach Magazines fasting growing church in America (read the article here). One of the coolest things that stuck out about Chris – he is very humble in the midst of the greatest times in his ministry and has a passion for training other church leaders. Here are some other notes:
- Chris says that his greatest gifts are raising up leaders and financial management (he is a strong administrator).
- He was one of 5 guys that founded ARC (Association of Related Churches). ARC starts a new church every 4 days and has a great process for selecting and developing leaders.
- Church of the Highlands values multi-site and has 2 locations in Birmingham, 1 in Tuscaloosa and 1 in Auburn – 12 weekend services in all.
Quite possibly the greatest thing about Chris is that he is an LSU Tiger – GEAUX Tigers. At one point there were three Tigers in his office with one VOL fan. Honestly, I didn’t know that there were three saved people that came out of LSU, so I was feeling good about it!
Chris, thanks for your hospitality. If you are in the Birmingham area, you should check out Church of the Highlands.
It‘s quiet in here! Why not leave a response?
