Recently Dan Novak, David Lyons and I were talking about different organizations and the issues they face. Dan mentioned that the root problem of almost every issue that arises in business relates to trust. Patrick Lencioni even said trust had to be the foundation of an organization in The 5 Dysfunctions of a Team.
It’s apparent in church teams today that we face the same issue. Trust is difficult to maintain, particularly when we are working in fast-paced environments where things are constantly moving forward and changing. But trust has to be the bedrock to build a great staff team.
Several guys in my Coaching Network mentioned a session by Andy Stanley at Catalyst on Trust vs Suspicion. Part of the session can be heard on Andy’s Leadership Podcast. I’m currently evaluating where our team is as related to this issue. What’s at the core of your team?
I wish I knew of a way to get our management to read this post. At times it feels like the only thing they trust us to do is convert o2 into co2. Thanks for the post, I may have to pick up the book The 5 Dysfunctions of a Team and slide it under the door..
