We started a new series this past weekend called Moved – putting our compassion into action. Pastor did a great job introducing the series – here are the highlights based on Luke 6:
- Did I make a conscious decision to choose souls over social issues?
- I grew up in the hood. God chased me down – I couldn’t get away.
- This attorney wanted to justify himself – why did he have to ask, “Who is my neighbor?”
- I decided I needed to get out of the hood and I never thought I should go back.
- The religious guys pass by, but not the Samaritan. Christians love people who can repay them. The Samaritan was never paid back – the guy never even acknowledged his help – he was unconscious.
- Most Christians serve out of guilt, not compassion.
- We want to serve like the Samaritan. This is going to become a long-term value at FPC. We want to lift the level of love to the unlovable.
- When God asks you why you didn’t do anything to show compassion, what will you say?
Great thoughts to challenge us to be the hands and feet of Jesus. Sometimes I still struggle with phrases like “don’t help those who don’t help themselves (I don’t think that’s in the Bible).” I was taught some things that were not biblical – I have some changing to do in the area of compassion.
It‘s quiet in here! Why not leave a response?
