Yesterday David Lyons, President of Minister Search and I presented a Case Study on the explosive growth and awesome staff at Faith Promise. It was a great reminder of how incredible it is to be on staff at one of the greatest churches in the country.
In our breakout time, we focused on four things that we consider when staffing at the church. For all of you who were not there, here they are:
- We needed to hire staff for a church running 3,000 to 5,000 with the potential to grow beyond that through coaching and development.
- We needed to use tools to help determine the best fit for our ministry context. The Caliper Profile (www.caliperonline.com) has been significant in the process.
- We needed flexible job descriptions and compensation. If we could strategically hire and compensate beyond our current need, we would have a greater opportunity to gain a “next-level” staff team.
- We needed to hire internally if available and identify the best external candidates possible.
We haven’t figured it all out, but we are learning. It was a great morning session at the Xpastor Seminar.
