Today was another awesome day with Tony Morgan, Chief Strategic Office at New Spring Church. We had some great discussions on church staffing and structure between the 11 of us. I appreciate Tony’s willingness to learn with us, even though there was a rumor going around today that Tony has a magic wand that can make all problems go away. However, he refused to use it – come on man!
What did I learn today:

  1. As a leader of leaders, I need to know who the key volunteers are in each area of ministry and build a relationship with them. This will help in times of transition.
  2. New Spring has some kicking staff – there staff to attender ratio is 1:100. Go New Spring!
  3. Empowering leaders is guided by values while delegation is guided by preference. Strong leaders empower others to lead & make decisions.

In other points of interest, Kyle Gilbert, the new Pastor of Communications at Faith Promise Church has been released to publish anti-Axioms on his blog site. If you haven’t read Axiom by Bill Hybels, you need to do it. Several years ago, Kyle and I began writing topics for a book entitled, The Deacon Effect, which would talk about poor leadership decisions that we have seen within churches – all blamed on the Deacons. Well, Kyle has updated the list, and I can’t wait to see them!
